Fundraising Goal

It is the goal of the Physical Therapy Division to raise $500,000 in gifts and pledges from alumni and friends over the next five years to support two areas of need – the upgrading of the program’s clinical teaching laboratories and the growth of the endowment to support need-based student scholarships.

Laboratory Improvements: Fund for Technology and Clinical Education

Funds supporting laboratory improvements will be used to obtain technology and equipment and to modernize facilities that have served students in the Atwell lab since 1971. An estimated $250,000 is needed to bring these facilities up to standard.

Some examples of the materials and improvements included in the “upgrade” include the following:

Wall mounted treatment tables: $7,300

Body weight suspension system: $5,000

Balance systems: $5,000

Hi-lo treatment plinths: $34,000

Upgraded electrical system: $5,000

Ultrasound machines: $14,000

Laser: $6,000

Physical Therapy Alumni Legacy Scholarship Fund

Last year, 95 PT students received some form of financial aid. Of the $.1.2 million awarded to these students, the majority of aid came from federal loans, while only $44,000 came from scholarship funds available through the school.

With rising costs and a longer program duration to increase costs for students attending the DPT program, the burden on the existing endowment is expected to grow. The creation of the new Physical Therapy Alumni Legacy Scholarship Fund will enable more students to receive more substantial assistance. The goal of the “Alumni Legacy” scholarship is to raise $250,000 to build an endowment principal to provide as many as five partial tuition scholarships each year.

Individual endowments may also be established by donors wishing to honor a family member, mentor or teacher with a minimum gift of $50,000.
